Legally Blonde: Auditions

Director/Choreographer: Gia Solari

Auditions:
Entire cast must move, so auditions will start with one mandatory movement call. Please choose a time slot from the following:

  • September 17: 12:00pm or 2:30pm
  • September 18: 12:00 or 2:30pm

Vocal auditions will take place immediately following each movement call if appropriate.

Callbacks:

  • September 19: 6:30-11PM
  • September 20: 6:30-11PM

Appointments for auditions will be scheduled beginning Sept. 1st.

Please note: The role of “Elle Woods” has been precast.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your time slot.  Prepare 32 bars from the musical theatre songbook.  Please bring sheet music in your key, your resume and a headshot if you have one. An accompanist will be provided. All must move first and, if appropriate, will be asked to stay for vocal auditions.

Please note: Travel stipends will be provided. AEA Guest Artist (Tier II) contracts available.

Rehearsals begin January 2, 2012.  Performances are
February 10 – March 3, 2011 at Lesher Center for the Arts.

All auditions are held at our studios, “The Firehouse” located at: 1948 Oak Park Blvd., Pleasant Hill.  Do NOT use Mapquest for directions.  See MAP here.

Cast Breakdown:

BROOKE WYNDAM – An exercise video star who is also a former sorority girl. Has a great, firm physique. A tough exterior but a heart of gold. A3 – G5 Alto or Soprano
CHUTNEY – Brooke Wyndam’s step daughter, affected by her “station” and marginally psychotic
ELLE WOODS (Precast) – The quintessential Valley Girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more to offer than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality Gb2 – G5 Soprano Belt
ELLE’S DAD – Elle’s rich, golfer father D3 – E#4 Baritone
ELLE’S MOM – Elle’s socialite, country-clubing mother C4 – E5 Alto
EMMETT FORREST – A smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing. His charm overshadows his understated good looks. B2 – A4 Tenor
ENID – A mousy, intellectual law student G3 – G5 Soprano Belt
KATE – Elle’s Delta Nu sister and consummate bookwork Bb3 – Eb5 Alto
KYLE (UPS GUY) – A great-looking, in-shape employee of the United Postal Services

Auditions are open to teens ages 14-20. Prepare 32 bars of a pop/rock song that is meaningful to you. Bring sheet music, an accompanist will be provided. No Tapes/CDs. Also please be prepared to sing the first verse of “Amazing Grace” a cappella, if asked. Please dress to move.

CHARACTERS
Bob Wallace – late 20′s to mid 30′s, a superb singer with a crooning style who moves well. Stoic with a sincere charm that runs deep.
Phil Davis – late 20′s to mid 30′s, strong jazz and tap-dancing needed – a song-and-dance comic performer. A go-getter with a vibrant personality. A complete flirt.
Betty Haynes – mid to late 20′s, a female singer of quiet beauty and charm who must move well. Motherly and wise, yet extremely vulnerable. A classic beauty that embodies grace and strength.
Judy Haynes – early 20′s, strong jazz and tap-dancing needed – a major song-and-dance performer. Sassy and sweet. Vivacious to the bone.
General Henry Waverly – late 50′s to mid 60′s, with the exception of one line, a non-singing role. Dignified and knowing. A gentle giant.
Martha Watson – late 40′s to mid 60′s, a winning, appealing character-comedienne. Big-hearted and generous, but tough as nails.
