On the Aisle with Bobbi and Marty Bach

I recently sat down with longtime Diablo Theatre Company supporters Bobbi and Marty Bach and asked them 10 quick questions.
CW: How did you two meet?
MB: University of Wisconsin, I was a junior, Bobbi was a freshman, first day of the school year, Geology 101 at 7:45 am.
CW: Bobbi, What was your first musical theater role?
BB: I played the lead in Victor Herbert’s The Fortune Teller in high school. At the University of Wisconsin I was cast as Kate in Kiss Me Kate.
CW: What brought you to the Bay Area?
MB: I was an ROTC graduate, married and waiting orders. My assignment was assistant to the Adjutant General at the Oakland Army Terminal. We drove across country and took an apartment on Lee Street in Oakland.
CW: How long have you been involved with Diablo Theatre Company?
BB: Since 1978
CW: How did you become involved with Diablo Theatre Company?
BB: We were living in Moraga; I read an ad in the newspaper that DLOC was having auditions for Kiss Me Kate. I got the part, and then played Kate again 20 years later for DLOC.
CW: Bobbi, in how many Diablo Theatre Company productions have you appeared?
BB: I have been in eleven show, including Annie three times, Kiss Me Kate and 42nd Street twice.
CW: So, what was your favorite role with Diablo Theatre Company?
BB:My favorite leading roles include Kiss Me Kate, Me & My Girl, Crazy for You, Annie, City of Angels, 42nd Street, and Kismet. I was thrilled to be twice honored by Diablo Magazine as “Best Local Singer” and to win two Shellie Awards.
CW: Marty, what is your current role with DTC?
MB: I currently serve as Finance Chair. I have been Chairman of the Board and Bobbi served as President for four years.
CW: Why is supporting Diablo Theatre Company important to you?
MB: We believe in the importance of top quality entertainment, and good local theater at affordable prices. I have been lucky in life, it is very important for me to give back to my community and something we believe in.
CW: If you weren’t in the theater, where would we find you?
MB: The Racetrack, watching my horses.
BB: With the grandchildren in Hawaii.
